Province-Wide Alliance Launches Campaign for a Full BC Intercity Bus NetworkOnline launch event, Tuesday, April 28 at 6:00 PM.
Advocacy organizations from across British Columbia are launching the new Public Transit Alliance of BC and calling for major improvements to transit services across the province, especially for rural and underserved communities left behind since the loss of intercity bus services. The Alliance will announce its first campaign, a call for a fully connected provincial intercity bus network, to be formally launched in May. This issue goes directly to the heart of rural access, including access to healthcare, work, education, and family connection.
BC Rural Health Network is pleased to support this initiative, and Paul Adams will be speaking at the launch alongside George Anderson, MLA and Parliamentary Secretary for Transportation and Transit, Emily Lowan, Leader of the BC Green Party, Eric Doherty, transportation planner, and grassroots voices from communities across the province.
“Try walking a mile in rural shoes, you won’t be catching the bus. Reliable public transit is essential for equitable access to services across the province.”
Access to safe and affordable transportation remains a critical issue, particularly in rural and northern communities. In too many places, limited transportation options mean people miss medical appointments, turn down work and education opportunities, or are forced into unsafe travel choices.
The Alliance also supports calls from the BC Assembly of First Nations for improved transportation, recognizing that Indigenous people face significantly higher transportation risks and that public transit remains a top priority for many communities.
