Burns Lake is a town that embraces a rich diversity of cultures, celebrates its natural beauty and thrives on the strength of its community spirit.
A vibrant volunteer network makes Burns Lake the hub for a variety of events, from celebrations and farmers’ markets to a thriving local music scene and amazing art exhibitions. These gatherings foster connections, create lasting memories, and showcase the truly unique spirit of the Lakes District. We are a community of family-friendly neighbourhoods, quality licensed early learning centres and community playgrounds. We also offer a range of recreational facilities with exceptional community programming for people of all ages.
Whether you love exploring nature trails, getting together for a book club, or experiencing multi-season sports at a competitive level, our community offers breathtaking landscapes and endless opportunities that will capture your heart and connect you with people who share your passions.
A priority for the Village of Burns Lake is to encourage medical professionals to seek full-time, long-term employment here. Unfortunately, recurring hospital closures and reductions in services due to a lack of staff have an impact on the residents of the community and the Lakes District.
However, we know that if we can truly introduce new and prospective medical professionals to our community, we will be able to welcome them home. To that end, the Village of Burns Lake has partnered with The Regional District of Bulkley Nechako, the Northern Health Authority and the Northern Interior Rural Divisions of Family Practice to form the Recruitment and Retention of Medical Professionals Committee. This Committee is focused on hiring a qualified contractor to act as the Healthcare Recruitment Coordinator for Burns Lake.
This Coordinator will become a key community contact for healthcare professionals and will work closely with Northern Health to support the recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals in the community. They will facilitate the introduction of new and prospective medical professionals to our community and its services. They will assist newcomers with all those frequently asked questions that will make transitioning to a new community easier.
The Village and the Committee are looking for someone who is flexible, approachable, professional, knowledgeable and passionate about the community. The contract will be awarded as soon as a qualified candidate is identified and will end approximately twelve months from hire. The contract may be extended subject to funding availability. Prospective candidates can find more information on our website.
The Village of Burns Lake is also working on housing and quality of life initiatives including a 160-acre community collaborative recreation development property, a senior’s housing project and an 86-acre multi-use, inclusive and accessible housing development. The vision behind these types of development is to improve the quality of life for community members by creating affordable housing, developing assets and creating a stronger, more connected community that also encourages everyone to make this community their home.
