Invite the light! It is “Spark in the Dark” tonight in New Denver!

Bluebirds Build Lanterns 2023

It’s still very much lantern season here in “the village that sparkles”. A dozen free  community workshops and school class sessions are now behind us. A collaboration by the Spark team with the Bluebird volunteers has kept our pavilion residents happily involved.

On a recent Saturday evening as their dinner ended, the Spark team aided by staff dimmed the dining room lights and showed off some recent creations.

Over the next 2 weeks a group of residents and Bluebirds at our regular weekly art mornings made balloon lanterns. (That they become more than spectators as the lantern parade passes their windows fulfils a goal held over from the 2022 Spark lantern parade.)

Week 1: We papered the balloons with strips of tissue paper using dilute white glue. This was something they could readily accomplish and it was evident that the work and the social.

Week 2: We all enjoyed popping the balloons and watching them separate from the now dry shell. Everyone tried to guess what the final message would be as we added a letter and some stars to each lantern sphere. Once each had a base all was revealed. Once Illuminated and in a strategic window as they file past on the 28th the paraders, one by one, will see…

So here in New Denver,  Spark in the Dark, January 28th and the much anticipated lantern festival is only 8 days away. Wish us weather luck! We promise to come back and tell you all about it.
