Extreme hot weather ahead!

After a cold spring and a slow start to the summer, the warmer weather has been a welcome change for many! However, extreme hot weather is now in the forecast across most areas of BC and forecast to increase into next week.

The BC Rural Health Network has a collection of excellent resources on managing the heat and assisting the most vulnerable in emergency situations.  All these resources are from trusted, reliable sources and you can access them here.

The Canadian Safety Council also reminds everyone that children are especially vulnerable to heat exposure and a few minutes left alone in the car can be life altering for all involved! Some helpful tips on car safety and kids can be found here.

As we age our ability to regulate body temperature decreases, please check on your family, neighbors, and aging friends, especially during long duration hot spells.

Drink lots of liquids, wear hats, use sunscreen, find some shade, and ask for help if you’re feeling the impacts of heat.

Most importantly, the BC Rural Health Network would like you all to stay cool, stay safe and enjoy the summer weather!
