The Canadian Alcohol Use Disorder Society (CAUDS) strives to transform how alcohol use disorder is understood and treated, fostering hope and improving quality of life. We envision a world where it is recognized as a medical condition, met with compassion, and addressed through ongoing research, practice, and policy change to reduce suffering.

Our society was inspired and co-founded by family physician, Dr. Jeff Harries. Recognizing a critical gap in AUD treatment, Dr. Harries dedicated himself to improving care not only for his patients, but also through hundreds of presentations across BC and Alberta, the development of provincial guidelines, and the creation of clinical resources and care pathways. In 2021, Dr. Harries passed away from complications of ALS.
Today, we continue his legacy, by working in four pillars: supporting people impacted by AUD; engaging health practitioners to improve treatment of AUD; promoting evidence-based policies and new understandings of AUD care; and empowering community leaders and decision-makers to incorporate a more hope-filled understanding of AUD into their personal lives and professional work.
