Bluebirds for October

October was an action packed Bluebird month. Here are highlights:

  1. We attended the eagerly anticipated grand opening of our village’s new pump track. It was rich for our residents to participate, to be able to mingle with the community. They loved the excitement of watching the full range of child sizes test their skills and of listening to the accompanying happy buzz. They had hotdogs  and the sole exception for dietary reasons had blue bubblegum ice cream. Their delight was heartwarming.  Because we wanted to take more residents than we had available Bluebirds we recruited high school boys to help. They were willing, kind and their help much  appreciated.

  1. As a spin off from that event we recruited a wonderful new Bluebird! Kayden is 12 and he has an innate ability to connect with seniors. And bless him, he’s willing to help with weekly outings because the residents love him as we do. Here’s hoping the fall lingers.

  1. We made lots of art. Bluebird Linda has really stepped up to head these weekly sessions. We enjoy the projects as much as the residents.

  1. Lastly, a lovely gesture of support for the Bluebird Art Team was the surprise gift of “branded” Bluebird aprons. We thank the donor and wear them proudly.

I often think about that famous Margaret Mead quote when I track our Bluebird trajectory. It’s a little that’s a lot.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
