Premier’s statement on Family Day

Premier David Eby has released the following statement marking Family Day:

“Family Day is a wonderful opportunity to gather with those you love and celebrate what it means to be a family.

“B.C. families are as diverse as our population itself. Whether you’re spending today with the family you were born into or the family you choose along the way, Family Day is a time to reflect on the bonds of kinship and connection.

“Family Day is also a great time to get out in your community. This year, our government is again partnering with the BC Recreation and Parks Association and the BC Museums Association to offer free activities throughout the province. From geocaching in Cache Creek to enjoying a free swim and skate in Fernie, there are lots of options for family fun in every part of B.C.

“Healthy families make life better for everyone. That’s why our government is focused on supporting families and keeping kids safe. We have reduced child care fees and created more than 33,000 new spaces, increased the BC Family Benefit, made a historic investment in school food programs and taken concrete actions to protect kids from online harms.

“On a personal note, this is my family’s last Family Day as a household of four, as we’re expecting a new addition later this year. So, to make the most of it, we’re planning to sleep in past sunrise and enjoy a nice, long walk without a diaper bag.

“From my family to yours, happy Family Day.”
