Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Statement

The BC Rural Health Network (BCRHN) emphasizes Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) to those that come from different backgrounds and to increase health equality by creating understanding and trust in diverse rural communities.

We define DEIB in the following way:

Diversity: Ensuring that our organization and the healthcare system doesn’t discriminate based on age, gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical ability, or religion.

Equity: Building a fair and balanced healthcare systems for all, so there are no underrepresented groups or unconscious bias. This work starts within our organization and ensuring we hold the same values within our group that we hope to promote within the entire healthcare system.

Inclusion: Creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and open communication is encouraged both in the healthcare system and in the BCRHN.

Belonging: The sense of community and acceptance people feel when the above strategies (DEI) are tackled.

The BCRHN is committed to creating an inclusive organization that values diversity and respects all individuals. We believe that a diverse and inclusive membership is essential to fulfilling our mandate of representing issues of relevance to rural BC. We strive to foster a culture that encourages open communication, collaboration, and innovation where all members feel valued and supported to contribute their lived and living experience. We are committed to promoting equity and fairness in all aspects of our operations and recognize the importance of addressing and overcoming systemic barriers that prevent the full participation of underrepresented groups.

We believe that a commitment to DEIB is not only the right thing to do, but is critical to our success as a network.
